民国时期，兴乌镇中医九叔在钱家祭祖时，钱小姐被勒死。九叔发现凶手留下钟馗玉佩，怀疑与钱老爷有仇。凶手再次行凶，九叔与警察队长梁连生暗中追查。最终发现凶手是丁牧，他为祭奠自缢的弟弟丁远而杀人。丁牧伏法，九叔救出被劫的钱巧云，小镇恢复平静。
